    underprivileged children

    from Kolkata

This campaign is in association with the Treasures of Innocence (ToI), a registered society, operational since 2013 to enable the socially-economically marginalized to become self-reliant. Our geographical spread includes Kolkata and the district of East Midnapore of West Bengal. Our flagship intervention is to provide both pedagogic and extracurricular support for socially and economically marginalized children to enable them to develop self-confidence to take charge of their lives going forward. This is done through a number of structured programs which increases both learning outcomes and the thinking process by which a child relates to her immediate environment and beyond.

Who are we?
We, members and volunteers of Treasures of Innocence wish to introduce ourselves as a group of enthusiastic and passionate young minds that are dedicated to the Service of upliftment of Children coming from challenged backgrounds. Our primary aim is to develop their personality and capability to make them self-reliant and an asset to the Nation. We always try to explore various ways to bring out the real potential of children in creativity and education. Our role here is that of an enabler: the youngsters are able to identify the promise in themselves and say confidently, “I can!”

Miss Rani Bhowani, a Masters in Economics from Calcutta University and also an MBA, is actually the face of this force.

On International Women's Day 2017 our Founder Miss Rani Bhowani was felicitated with “Bold Change Makers Award” for the initiative of Treasures of Innocence and honoured with the award from chess Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua, from the city of Kolkata.

All the activities which are involved into and the programmes carried out have been possible because of the immense amount of effort and sacrifice put in by the volunteers and also the untold number of professionals who have been tirelessly and selflessly contributing their time, effort and financial support.

How do we work?
We started by targeting a bunch of Government aided free schools in and around the city of Kolkata and have brought under our reach around 10 Schools totaling around 2000 students over the past 2 years that we are running the Program. All the activities which are involved into and the programmes carried out have been possible because of the immense amount of effort and sacrifice put in by the volunteers and also the untold number of professionals who have been tirelessly and selflessly contributing their time, effort and financial support.
We apply the method of story-telling, group activities, quiz-competition and teaching folk arts of different countries. Such activities enhance their creativity and self-confidence in various fields. We try to make them courageous, curious and confident through creativity-based education.

Rosy, Mohima, Tushar, and Sneha - bright children are on their way to fulfill their dreams, thanks to the Catch Them YOUNG program, run by the Treasures of Innocence. Despite of coming from a challenging background and being a first generation learner they dare to dream big after attending regular classes of “Catch Them YOUNG “.  They are not alone, Treasures of Innocence (ToI) groomed a total of 1,000’ underprivileged children from 10 government-aided schools under Sarva Siksha Mission through its year-long Catch Them YOUNG program that aims to make these children confident about their abilities. At the School Level Program, talented and laggard students have been identified as Rising Star and groomed throughout the year for participation at Inter-School Mega Event to showcase their talents.

“Congratulation to Rani and all the team and to the children of every school under the Sarva Siksha Mission. The art and craft and all the wonderful show were of such high standard.” --Padmasree, Sister Cyril

Other Activities

  • Setting-up library: With the support of our patrons, we are operating Libraries in 7 different schools.  The objective is to introduce children with books of all flavours and inculcate the habit of reading in them. Now we are trying to setting-up library infrastructure at 100 more schools in this year.

  • Distribution of Health Kits:  A Healthy Nation can be created by Healthy Children. To keep the children healthy My Treasures of Innocence has planned to distribute Health Kits to the children from challenging backgrounds. We make them aware of health and hygiene also. We try to make girls student aware of the uses of sanitary napkin instead of pieces of clothes during menstruation and provide sanitary napkins along with health kit.

The Craze Venture Venture covered our activities in their monthly esteemed:

Treasure of Innocence is trying to reach out to more needy children and do more for them but it needs funds and like-minded passionate people.
For the third year of the Catch Them YOUNG initiative, ToI looks forward to YOUR support. Here, your support will make a difference to a child’s life, and, in turn, empower the: community to grow sustainably. Since we try to provide these children with exposure to new and improved teaching techniques, we have to arrange for a lot of educationally relevant instruments and equipment such as projectors, printers, blackboards, stationery for various extra-curricular activities, the aggregate cost to purchase them is very high. We are hopeful that this platform will help us reach a larger audience and help us in collecting the requisite amount for this year's budget.

The following is the break-up of the funding requirement for the FYI 2018-2019:
    • Cost of learning material for 10 schools – Rs 1500x10 = Rs 15000
    • Cost of 1 health kit - Rs150
      Cost of 250 health kit - Rs150x250 = Rs 37,500
    • Cost of one Printer with ink – Rs 10,000
    • Cost of a hall, decoration, and other facilities for Catch Them Young – Mega Event, 2018-2019  – Rs.35,000
    • Resource allocation for “Catch Them Young – Mega Event, 2018-2019” – Rs 45,000

Total annual recurring cost – Rs 2, 22,500
