I am Prachi Jha. I have been selected as a delegate at the Harvard College Project for Asian and International relations (HPair). I am a citizen of India.
I recently completed my B.Tech with specialization in Surface Coating Technology from one of India's most premier engineering colleges, Institute of Chemical Technology, Matunga, Mumbai.
I have been selected in the track of Global Markets and Economy. Attending this conference would be like a dream come true for me. It will serve as an ocean of opportunities for me and will help me broaden my knowledge pool.
In August 2018, I had an unfortunate accident and ended up with a ligament tear. This led to a level 4 ACL reconstruction surgery. Partial costs for rehabilitation had to be borne by me and hence, at this point of time, I am finding it difficult to fund my trip to the US (as all my savings have been used in these rehabilitation expenses).
I am the proud daughter of a retired Indian Air Force Personnel and a Hindi Teacher. All my life, my parents have provided me with all the necessities to achieve good education. They have also encouraged to aim higher and to never stop dreaming. Getting an accept from HPair is a culmination of all these dreams and I would be thrilled if I realise my dreams with the help of some of you generous donors.
I would like to share a couple of things about my background. I am an ardent reader, currently working on my own collection of poetry. I am also a firm believer of education acting as an enabler for everyone, especially the less privileged ones. In my engagements with Teach for India as a volunteer, my belief in promoting the idea of each one, teach one has only strengthened. Besides this, I also organised a TEDx event in my college as the primary licensee. Through my experiences there, I realized that the world is quickly transforming into a platform full of challenges. In such times, the onus is on each one of us to pick at least one issue that we deeply care about and work on it relentlessly. Change is a state of the mind and only through collective dialogues and initiatives can it be transpired.
Brief overview of HPAIR (The Harvard Project for Asian & International Relations) - Harvard College 2019 : "Asia’s astounding growth over the past decade has not been without challenges. Solutions to sustainable development remain elusive; alarming human rights abuses against women, refugees, and the LGBTQ community remain unanswered; rising wealth inequality, catalyzed by globalization, remain unaddressed. The 2019 HPAIR Harvard College Conference will offer a platform to cooperatively confront these emerging challenges in Asia through dialogue and exchange that transcend geographical and cultural borders."
