    from Borio, Jharkhand

Tax benefits for INR donations will be issued by HOPE FOR CANCER PATIENTS

Project Name – “ Prayas “
What:
  • HCP wishes to conduct health awareness camp with special focus on debilitating diseases like CANCER.
  • Wishes to create awareness about literacy and value of education.
  • Wishes to create awareness about hygiene and menstruation among girls and young women – there is a specific “pad for sisters” program which talks about eco-friendly ways to manage those difficult days.
Where:
  • Tribal areas of Borio – Banjhi in Sahibganj district of Jharkhand.
  • Mohallas/ villages of Sahibganj on the fringes like Kodarjanna; Mahadevganj etc.
  • Sakrigali
When:
  • From 16th Feb till 3rd March 2018
Why:
  • Because these areas are one of the most underdeveloped parts of our society and needs urgent help. Hence it is critical to plough back some goodness in this society by way of creating awareness in key areas of health, hygiene and education.
  • This area is specially prone to gutkha and drug abuse with high instances of alcoholism and we need to tell them about the heavy negative impact it has on their family and society at large.
  • Today the Trust HCP (Hope for Cancer Patients: www.hopeforcancerpatients.com) is doing some good work in the Cancer hospitals of Bangalore and Delhi. I am the Managing Trustee of HCP and I wish to help poor people of Sahibganj district.
How:
  • I have a group of young enthusiastic volunteers who are associated with HCP and we wish to help create a better society by spreading relevant and useful messages amongst the poor and the destitute section of our society.
  • We will conduct awareness camps at different villages; will conduct useful workshops and talk about the usefulness of steps that need to be taken towards good health and hygiene.
  • We have a dedicated “pads for sisters” program for young women which will help dispel many taboos and will give them confidence to learn and use healthy ways to manage their periods. We are told that they use ash and even sawdust during these difficult days due to lack of awareness.
  • HCP wants to help people come out of their medieval thinking and be a part of the mainstream.
  • HCP’s focus is on creating value in 4 S – Swacchta; Swasthya; Siksha and Swarozgar. We want to create awareness amongst people regarding cleanliness, good health, good education and self reliance by adopting vocational trades. These are 4 pillars of any ideal society and can create immense value for people living in it if they adhere to these principles.
Budget:
  • To conduct a series of such workshops in 5-6 villages covering 1500 students; 500 women and 1000 men.
  • Provide educational material to 1500 kids.
  • Provide eco-friendly pads to poor sisters of the villages.
  • Provide water filters especially in tribal areas where the population does not have improved drinking water facilities.
  • HCP wants to distribute Eco-friendly pads to the women
  • To do these in our first phase of engagement primarily with the tribal and the downtrodden section of the society lying in one of the remote corners of Jharkhand, HCP would need a minimum of Rs. 10-12 Lakhs as there will be conveyance, boarding and lodging expense of 8 volunteers who will work for 20 days in a dedicated manner.
