“It was an unexpected news that the doctor delivered to us that day. Our daughter was down with a high fever that wouldn’t let up. We were worried, of course, but we thought that a few days in the hospitals and proper medication would see her through. I never imagined to find out that day that the cause of the fever was cancer - that my daughter’s life was in danger...” - Madhu, mother

Approaching several doctors in vain, tests finally revealed the cause of her fever

It was in October, last year, that little Pari had persistent symptoms for her disease, that the family though was a regular fever. She had been running a high temperature for days and complaining of body pain.

But despite various doctor consultations and medications for over 3 months, she had no relief. Even her regular blood reports didn’t show anything out of the ordinary. Finally, after a relative advised her parents to take her to a bigger hospital in Delhi, she was able to undergo more specialised tests, including a bone marrow test - and that sealed her fate.

“The first few minutes, I just sat there stunned, unable to even accept the diagnosis. I don’t know much about the disease, but I know it is dangerous - deadly even, that it can ravage even the strongest people. How could my child have cancer? She is only 7 years old! She has her whole life ahead of her. Why would God try to take it away from her?” - Sunil, father

She needs chemotherapy to survive, but her parents cannot afford it

Pari was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a type of blood cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. She needs to be administered intensive chemotherapy for a period of 6 months to kill the cancer cells in her body, followed by supportive treatment that will continue for 2 years. Her chances of recovery are extremely high with timely treatment, but a delay could endanger her life.

Pari (L), with her little sister

The family moved from their hometown of Agra, to a better equipped-hospital in Delhi, so their daughter could get proper treatment. However they hadn’t expected that it would come to be so heavy on their pockets. In the past 3 months, Pari’s parents have spent over INR 1.8 lakh on her treatment.

Pari’s father, Sunil, is a daily wager and used to work in a jute factory, until he lost his job to COVID. Between taking care of his family and his older daughter’s expensive treatment, without a steady source of income, he’s now struggling to make ends meet. After using up all his savings, he was able to keep Pari’s treatment going with help from relatives. But now, his hands are tied.

How will I save her life with no money?

“My relatives aren’t well off that I can keep borrowing from them. They too have their constraints, and they’ve done all they could. How will I save her life, when I can’t even afford her treatment? 13 lakh rupees is just out of our reach. It is an impossible amount for a poor man like me to afford, but my daughter’s life depends on it…” - Sunil

These parents have exhausted all their options, Now they're turning to you with hopes that you’ll help them save their precious daughter from the clutches of death. Your contributions can give Pari a new life.
