If you ask Vishal how Nutan was before she fell sick, the first thing he will say is – "Naughty! She’s so naughty, I’ll show you her pictures." What will follow is five minutes of chatter about how she would run around the house, dress up for any small occasion and always made him smile. But the happiness from his face soon vanishes as he realizes that he’s now in the hospital, struggling to save her life.

“When I look at her photos I feel so happy, but then I look at her on the hospital bed, crying…”

It all began one month ago – a fever, some body pain and tiredness. It was very unlike Nutan to sit one place for a long time. Naturally, Vishal and Kavita were worried.

“I work in the police force in our hometown and every day when I would come back home, she would come running to me, asking me to carry her on my shoulder…but our Nutan barely even got up from her bed then. We took her to the doctor and they said her liver was badly infected. We had to bring her here to Hyderabad.”

Nutan was taken to the ICU. She was there for a few days and her condition began improving. Now Nutan has been shifted to the ward, but she still needs treatment.

Vishal and Kavita have left their two other children behind with relatives to stay with Nutan here. Their family members have been helpful in their time of need, but it’s not enough.

“We’ve spent nearly 2 lakhs, that’s a lot for someone like me…I just want to take my Nutan home healthy. That’s all I pray for.”
