This Father Is Determined To Save Son From Cancer Against All Odds

“My 1-year-old son has blood cancer. When the doctors broke the news to us, my wife, Noorisa, started crying but I was too shocked to even cry. I couldn’t sleep that night. But as the sun rose to declare a new day, I was determined to save my son. If so many people can get cured of this disease in this hospital, so will my son. My relatives back at home believe that Nur will never come home alive but I want to prove them wrong. I want to save my son,” - Abdul Halim (father).

His face and stomach had swollen up dangerously

Nur has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and he needs another nine months of chemotherapy. His father has exhausted all the money that he had come to Bangalore with and now his only option is that of crowdfunding.

“The swelling on his face and his stomach scared me. I realised that this was not something usual. When doctors in Behrampore told us that they can’t cure my son, I immediately decided to take him to Vydehi, Bangalore. I had heard a lot about this hospital from few others in and around our village. I hoped my son would get well here."

Nur can’t sit up for even a minute

His first round of chemo has started yesterday and little Nur is petrified. It takes both Noorisa and Abdul to hold and convince him to sit during the painful procedure. He cries inconsolably whenever he sees a doctor approaching him.

“Back at home, he had started taking his first steps. And now, he is too weak to even sit up for few minutes, even with the support of pillows. The swelling has reduced but he still has the fever. It is heartbreaking to see him go through so much pain but I can’t cry in front of my wife. At night when both of them are asleep, I can’t help but shed helpless tears.”

Abdul came to Bangalore with just Rs 10,000, now he has nothing to afford his son’s treatment

Abdul used to do odd jobs in his small village in Murshidabad. He never had any regular income and was mostly dependent on the goodwill of his friends in the village. It is from them that he borrowed Rs 20,000 more when his money got exhausted.

“But even they can’t help me any more. I need 5.5 lakhs for Nur’s treatment - without help I would never be able to arrange so much.”

How you can help

Abdul has been staying with the labourers near the hospital while his wife is taking care of their ailing son. They are solely dependent on the kindness of strangers. But despite their hardships Abdul wants to save his son. With your help, he can cure his 1-year-old and take him back home.

Abdul believes that his little boy can beat cancer and go back home healthy. But he doesn’t have the means to afford his treatment - a small contribution from your side can make this happen.
