'In the evening of their life, they are neglected by their own !'
In India, one in every 3 elders is abandoned by their family, earn less than INR 5000 annually and live with the bare minimum.
Let’s take the story of Mrs Sangeeta Krishnamurthy who is 60 years of age and unfortunately has been abandoned by her family at this age. She used to be a teacher in a primary school and now there is no one to care for her needs.
When we tested her blood sample; we identified that she has very high blood pressure and sugar levels, and hence she has a high chance of getting a stroke, we also identified that she is a potential dementia case.
Portea CSR support whose vision is a healthy and happy India aims to support the underprivileged societies. Hence we have tried up with three NGOs- Gandhi Old Age home, Fatima old age home and HelpAge India;
In the month of March 2018 we partnered with a venture capital firm named Innoven Capital to provide preventive health care to 770 elders- Kolkotta, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai were the areas covered.
Through these blood reports, we have identified the medical needs of these inmates. While some need just medicines for hypertension, diabetes and anaemia; there are others who need counselling, physiotherapy, medical equipment and there are many elderly who need caregivers just to tend to their daily needs like diaper change for the bedridden, hygiene specialist for their upkeep, a nutritionist who can advice the kitchen on healthy food and one point of contact generalist doctor who can be their overall health manager.
