    This fundraiser will benefit

    Nirmala Raj

    from New Delhi, Delhi

April, 2016 was a very devastating month for my whole family as we came to know that my mother, Nirmala Raj(48) was diagnosed with Stage-3 tongue cancer which was spread to the base of the tongue, right jugular vein, neck and nearby lymph nodes. We all were shocked to learn that she was suffering from cancer because she was a non-smoker/drinker. Also, she had no symptoms, expect a normal tongue unclear on the left side.

On 02/05/16, she had a 10 hrs long surgery at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi. Surgery was successful and the last biopsy report post surgery was totally negative, that means she had no more cancer traces and she finally was considered 'Cancer-Free'.

On 28/05/16, her Radiation treatment of 33 cycles along with 5 concurrent chemotherapy sessions started at BLK hospital, New Delhi.

Post treatment from July, 2016 my mother started recovering and we took a breather and thought that the dark days have gone.

But time was cruel to us.
On 04/10/16 she had a new PET Scan which made everything shattered, again. This time cancer was not in the head and neck area, but was metastasised in Lungs and nearby bones.

Again, her chemotherapy treatment started from 13/10/16 at BLK hospital, New Delhi. But instead of getting some relief, her health started deteriorating after 2 cycles of chemo. She underwent MRI chest scan just before her 3rd chemo cycle. Report revealed disease progression with mild to moderate pleural effusion.
It was thus, cleared that the chemo drugs were not working for her. So, her treatment was stoped at BLK hospital after her 2nd chemo cycle which was on 03/11/16.

Thereafter, we took a second opinion and decided to continue her chemo sessions from Max Hospital, New Delhi from 29/11/16 where all chemo drugs were changed for good results.
The Doctor suggested for 6 cycles of chemotherapy.
4 cycles have been completed and the latest PET Scan(after 3rd cycle) reveals partial response of Chemotherapy(31/01/17).

Now the doctor has suggested the most advanced cancer treatment which is known as 'Immunotherapy'. The total cost of 6 session of Immunotherapy is Rs. 1,320,000 and the doctor told us that at least my mother needs to continue 15-20 sessions of this treatment for better chances of survival.

We are a four membered family.
My mother is a home-maker, my father works at State Bank Of India, I am a freelancer with almost negligible earnings and my younger brother is a student.
Since my father is the main breadwinner of our family and he had already spent a few lakhs for my mother’s treatment, he will not be able to arrange such a huge amount of money with 40-45 days. Also, we do not own any property or business for financial backup.

We will be needing support of you all.

My mother is a super courageous woman, never was she in tears.
She wants to live. She wants to spend her life with her family happily.

She is the soul of our house.

Your contribution can give my mother a new hope of life and can brighten our home with joy, again.
