Rabiya Begum, one of our girls, is heavily inspired by Malala Yousafzai. She often reiterates a famous quote by her: “One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.”
Step into our classrooms and you will find them overflowing with the aspirations, achievements and abilities of the 120 children we teach at Madina Mission High School.
You will find them learning from and teaching each other, pushing their boundaries and constantly raising the bar for themselves.
Madina Mission High School is a low income private school set in the heart of Old City, Hyderabad, in a small neighbourhood called Jahanuma. It is one of the oldest communities, and possibly one of the most conservative.
Education, especially for our girls, is an uphill battle in this community, and for most of our students a college education is a far-fetched dream.
Against this backdrop, you will find our children excel every single day. Just in the last year, our kids defied all odds, and became the first people in their community to ever step out and demonstrate what they're capable of. From winning awards for writing the best research paper, being invited to Kids Education Revolution in Mumbai on account of being an inspiring Student Leader, to making it to the Space Museums in Bangalore and Hong Kong, our children did it all.
Our children enter grades 7, 8 and 9 this year, and as their teachers our collective goal is to simply make sure that the lack of resources and opportunities are never the cause of unmet dreams and potential.
Meher Kiran Singh (ex-TFI Fellow), Trishima Reddy, Benjamin Vinito Chishi and Raeesa Bukhary (TFI Fellows) are the people trying to make sure the 120 brilliant minds at Madina Mission break the glass ceiling both, during and after school. While we strive to give our children an excellent education in school every day, we now need to ensure that they make it to college as well. Our children, with the right kind of access and exposure will change their own lives and those of the people in their community.
For this, we need your help.
You can contribute to any one of the following provisions we hope to make available for our students this year:
Possibilities | Amount |
Career Counselling for 9th grade students | Rs. 35,000 |
Dramebaaz (Interschool, city wide) | Rs. 2,500 |
School Trip to Birla Planetarium and Science Museum | Rs. 36,000 (Rs. 300/child for tickets, travel, food) |
Miscellaneous (board games, library books, science lab equipment, audio visual room equipment) | Rs. 26,500 |
Total | Rs. 1,00,000 |
With your help, the children of Madina Mission High School can achieve everything they have ever imagined and then some. You see, each child, every child has an indomitable, dauntless spirit. It becomes our responsibility to nurture it.
Like Rabiya Begum says, “If Malala Yousafzai could do it, then why can’t I?”
