She runs away and sits somewhere unknown to her and to her family, it's hard to find her, it's scary to know that it's possible that one day they might not be able to find her. She doesn't eat, says words that no one can understand, can't express herself to anyone and just cries when she has her 'episodes'. It's been going on for a year but no one recognized until now that she was suffering from a mental illness. But even after they have recognized the mental illness, they can only afford a medicine specialist in the nearby town who is giving her 'brain medicines'.(which probably are sleeping pills so that she sleeps whole day). The destitute family, in a small village in Orissa has no money to go to a psychiatrist in the city because they can't bear the cost of travel and high fees of a psychiatrist.
She is an innocent woman of a village in Orissa who has worked all her life to raise to kids- one of her son is studying in college now and the elder one is a driver. They have spent all their little savings on the father when he met with an accident last year. At present, she is being treated by Dr. Ramesh Chandra Pathak, Senior Medicine Consultant at Dist H.Q Hospital, Nuapada.
I know them personally, because the son of the lady worked as driver in our house for 8 long years when I was growing up. Even after years of not working for our family, he has kept in touch and calls me to wish festivities.
In India, mental illness is first of a taboo, then it's inaccessible and then it's expensive.. they have thankfully crossed the taboo stage .. please help them get accessibility.
