I am an independent dancer and a theater practitioner. I need fund only for travelling to US for two months. There is going to be a workshop through which a performance will be built. That performance is going to be shown in India. The dance workshop is on women empowerment in terms of race, class, gender. The workshop is looking how our own body has the ability to go beyond the normative structure of societal thought of body in gender/ caste/ race. As a theater practitioner and dancer, I am looking for the language of body which connect dance and theater. That will talk about empowerment, injustice through body, which can go beyond word. The result of my participation in the workshop will be creating a production in India with women which can give them the space to move their body beyond normative border. That will also help to feel and imagine the empowerment through their own body, which they might not enjoy in their society. As the dance workshop will work on Indian dancing body and create Indian contemporary dance, that will help to create a common vocabulary that can be shared with Indian women.
I need travel cost which can help me to participate in the workshop, so that I can gain something through which I can set up here a production. That production will include under privileged women in India. It will help them to feel the power of body and emotion. That will help as a therapeutic process to think empowerment and embody the power. The dance workshop in Minnesota is working regularly for social justice, women of color. Learning from them, will help to create a bridge between India and world through movement.
This dance workshop is going to happen in Minnesota by Ananya Dance Theatre. This is a non profit organization who works with social issues. It is going to be a three weeks workshop. Approximately dates are 5 June 2019 to 26 June 2019.
