Sameer Basha is a playful 6 years old boy, but he looks like a 3 year old boy! He had been taken to various hospitals for his poor growth and inadequate height. One month ago ,when he attended pediatric nephrology clinic, he was having fast breathing with swelling of face and tummy. Blood investigations showed KIDNEY FAILURE. Parents were shocked to the diagnosis. He also had parathyroid harmone imbalance, very low hemoglobin. He received blood transfusion and medicines to control his blood pressure. He has been advised dialysis. Considering his younger age, peritoneal dialysis (PD) has been planned. PD catheter was inserted surgically. He had some electrolyte imbalance, needed ventilator care for 24 hours after undergoing the procedure. Now he is undergoing peritoneal dialysis. Parents were taught about the procedure so that they can do it at home on their own .His father is a painter who could not afford for the treatment . He has become dialysis dependent to survive. But the financial burden for the family is increasing day by day. They look forward with hope for Milaap’s help. Sameer is unfortunate to have this kidney failure at his younger age. But with continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis, he can survive though it is only a bridge to renal transplantation. With continuous dialysis, his weight and height will improve. His quality of life will be better. He can also attend his school.
