My wife was detected with Breast Cancer for the first time in April, 2008. We managed to complete her treatment at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. Her course of treatment went on till 2014 and she recovered, after which only time to time follow ups were required.
3 years later in June 2017, cancer relapsed and she was diagnosed with mediastinal metastasis 4th stage. Due to this, most of the hospitals in Mumbai denied to treat her stating that she would not survive for more than 3 weeks. By this time, she had started losing her voice and could not eat food leading to weakness. Having no options left in Mumbai, we started looking for alternatives elsewhere to get her cured. Fortunately, her brother got to know about a Doctor at M.V.R Cancer & Research Centre in Calicut, Kerala which treats 4th stage patients. After going through her reports, the Doctor stated that she could be treated even at this stage however the treatment would be expensive. Having no time in hand, we decided to treat her there no matter how much the costs would be, as we had no alternatives and wanted to save her life. At first, the estimated costs was about 10 lacs. As she was being treated, she developed many complications leading to added expenses. One such complication was the accumulation of fluids near her heart that started weakening her heart with every beat and making it difficult to function smoothly. Since her veins could not be found due to several chemotherapies in the past & present, chemo pots had to be inserted in her chest region thrice. Several operations had to be performed. She was planned for treatment with chemotherapy (weekly panclitaxel) X 6months + targeted therapy Transtuzumab every 3 weeks for a duration of 1 year.
At present, she is showing good signs of recovery and has even got her voice back. She is fighting and surviving all odds in spite of the doctors in Mumbai saying that she will not survive for more than 3 weeks. So far, we have used all our resources to help her win the battle and we are now falling short of finances to complete her treatment. Since 2008, in her fight for survival against cancer we have already spent more than 32 lacs. Currently, I work as a Lecturer in private coaching institutes and my daughter is working in a private firm. My son is still pursuing his studies. Our cumulative income is not sufficient to bear the expenses and we have already exhausted all other resources including property, gold, etc.
It is my sincere appeal to all of you to please help us win this battle as my wife has the will to live and she is showing positive signs of recovery.
