    Kamala Nag

    from Kolkata, West Bengal

Hello this is Ankita Nag here and I have a request for you all. I would request you to kindly please check the fund raising link and share it with your family and friends on social media as much as possible. I am trying to raise the fund for my father as he needs to undergo liver transplant.

My father has been suffering from a very rare form of Hepatitis (Hepatitis E) since 2004. Due to doctor's negligence he was incorrectly diagnosed and was properly treated really late which affected his liver by then to a great extent.

In the year 2009 he had the first symptoms of liver cirrhosis as he had continuous blood vomiting and internal bleeding. He was admitted at Apollo Gleneagles, Kolkata. After doing several tests, Dr. Mahesh Goenka and his team of doctors concluded that my father is suffering from Esophageal Varices (sometimes when blood flow to your liver is blocked, most often by scar tissue in the liver caused by Liver Cirrhosis. The blood flow begins to back up, increasing pressure within the large vein (portal vein) that carries blood to your liver) which happens in the advance cases of Liver Cirrhosis and doctors said he needed an immediate surgery.

After the surgery, doctors said he will never have the same quality of life that he had before and we came to know that he is suffering from Liver Cirrhosis. Since then he has been fighting with this disease.

In the year 2011 again he was rushed to hospital twice. He was admitted at Manipal Hospital, Bangalore and this time his condition had gotten even worse. He was showing even more advance symptoms of Liver Cirrhosis. According to Dr. Dinesh Kini and his team of doctors, my father had severe internal bleeding due to Esophageal Varices but along with that he also had Enlarged Spleen and Ascites (Abdominal swelling caused by abnormal accumulation of fluid due to Liver Cirrhosis. That is, huge amounts of water was being retained in his body). He again had undergone surgery and recovered.

He has been in and out of several hospitals since 2009 when he was first diagnosed with Liver Cirrhosis. But last year he was admitted several times as he wasn’t keeping well at all and he was showing severe and more prominent symptoms of end stage liver cirrhosis.

In the year 2017 twice he suffered from Hepatic Encephalopathy (The loss of brain function when a damaged liver doesn't remove toxins from the blood) for which he was admitted at AMRI Hospital, Kolkata. My own father wasn’t able to recognize me nor my mother for several days. It was a life altering and breaking point for both of us. We discussed the matter with Dr. Tarun Lahiri Mazumdar and his team of doctors who told us that it’s high time we should start considering for Liver Transplant as that is the only hope for my dad.

So I suggested my father to take a second opinion from Dr. Dinesh Kini who has been handling my father’s case for so many years. But due to his health issues he couldn’t travel to Bangalore to visit him last year. But finally he visited Bangalore to meet up with Dr. Dinesh Kini.

Dr. Dinesh Kini and his team of doctors at Sakra World Hospital, Bangalore had done several tests and they came to a conclusion that my father is suffering from chronic end stage liver cirrhosis and doctors has suggested he needs to undergo liver transplant immediately within next 3-6 months for his survival.

More than 10 years we have been managing somehow with my father’s medical bills and expenses, we exhausted all of his lifetime earnings and savings. He has retired in the year 2013. He worked for private companies so he doesn’t gets any pension.

The surgery costs Rs. 23-30 lacs and we don’t have that kind of hefty amount. So using the Milaap.org platform to raise the money for his liver transplant, any donation and help is appreciated. Please share the above link with your family and friends on social media and platform so that this message reach out to as much people as possible, so that we can get as much as help we can.

My family and me, thank you immensely for taking time to read my father’s story and lending a hand to help me try and cure my father.
