“We named her Jyoti. She is the light of our lives. We have always wanted a daughter and when the nurse put her in my arms, I couldn’t help but cry. Sheetal and I were so happy. Even my 5-year-old son, Gaurav, was looking forward to playing with his little sister. But then, everything changed in just a matter of days…,” - Shyam, father of 2-month-old Jyoti.

When baby Jyoti was only 20-days-old, she had a bad cold. Soon, she was unable to breathe and was gasping for breath.

It wasn’t just a bad cold…

The cough syrup and the tablets did nothing. Sheetal and Shyam started getting anxious. When they finally took the baby to a different hospital, the doctors said that she is suffering from pneumonia. But the underlying reason was worse.
 

“They said that Jyoti also has a hole in her heart. That was the reason her cold wasn’t getting any better. That was the reason she stayed awake nights after nights, crying out in pain. We were shocked - a little baby like her with a heart defect? The doctors said that she would need surgery soon - that’s the only way Jyoti can get better,” - Sheetal, mother.  

My entire day’s salary goes in buying her medicines

Shyam is a daily wager - he makes around Rs 350 in a day. But he is unable to save even a rupee. Whatever he earns in a day goes in buying Jyoti's medicine.
 

“Then there’s the rent, electricity bill, water bill, Gaurav’s school fees - I am the only earning member of the family. The surgery is going to cost me around 3.5 lakhs. There is no way I can afford that and save Jyoti’s life,” - Shyam.  

Shyam and Sheetal are desperate, they’re begging everyone they know for the money. These helpless parents have no means with which they can afford the surgery. Even a small contribution from your side will help them.
