    This fundraiser will benefit

    Hetansi

    from Kolkata, West Bengal

Hetansi is 3 years old but she hasn't known a world outside of the hospital since she was born. At 11 months, she was diagnosed with a life-threatening blood disorder called Beta Thalassemia Major. Since then, she has been undergoing blood transfusion every month for over 2 years now.

She underwent a stem cell transplantation

As a newborn baby, Hetansi had recurring fevers and kept crying. Nobody knew those cries were out of pain for 11 months till her reports confirmed her blood disorder. Last month, when her parents, Alpa and Lakhdir, were advised to do a Stem Cell Transplant, they didn't waste a single second to save her. They used up all their savings and took loans to arrange 40 lakhs and got her transplant done but now, she is fighting a severe infection.

"I still wonder how could this happen to our daughter? After she was detected with it, we did our tests and got to know that both of us are Thalassemia Minor. Since then, our hopes and dreams have shattered. God should have made us suffer but not our little angel. What is her fault that she has to go through something so painful all her life?"- Alpa, mother

Her body is attacking the new donor's cells causing an infection

Fate has not been kind to Hetansi, as even after undergoing a high-risk Stem Cell Transplant, her body has started attacking the donor cells causing an infection. Now, along with Thalassemia she is fighting a Grade IV Graft-Versus-Host-Disease (GVHD) of the gut. She needs extensive immunotherapy and prolonged hospitalization until her body accepts those cells. This will cost her parents a sum of 20 lakhs more.

Lakhdhir, her father, is a farmer who is already burdened with loans taken for her Transplant earlier. For him, to arrange 20 lakhs more immediately is next to impossible because nobody will loan him again until he pays off his previous dues.

They need your help

"Hetansi had offered me a deal where she would get her transfusion done only if I get her a chocolate . If I didn't give her that, she wouldn't let any nurse even get those injections near her. After getting the chocolate, she would get happy as if there is no pain in this world. But today, even the choclates fail to make her feel better, she doesn't even look at them. This breaks me down."- Lakhdhir, father

Lakhdhir and Alpa take turns to look after Hetansi. They can't be near her together for more than a few minutes to protect her from further infections. Every day, their day goes with a fear lurking in their minds of losing Hetansi when her skin goes pale suddenly or her heartbeat gets faster. She is already in a lot of pain due to her abdominal cramps and diarrhea.

She needs 20 lakhs more to be able to live a normal childhood now. With a little help, Hetansi can live a life free from hospital and injections. You can be the reason for it by contributing.
