    G KOMALI

    from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh

“The only purpose I have in life right now is to stay alive and that is only for my 3-year-old daughter’s sake. If not for her, my husband and I would have decided to end our lives rather than facing this gruesome battle. Poverty is a curse especially when it decides whether one has to live or die.” – Komali

Komali who is just 28 years old was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow, in 2019. She underwent treatment for over 2 years, despite facing financial and personal struggles.

Just when they thought that she was cured, her cancer relapsed

Even after all the intensive chemotherapy sessions and platelet transfusions, she is now at high risk of losing her life with the relapse of her cancer. She cannot survive without immediate Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplantation.

They are all alone in their struggle

“I was devastated when I got to know my loving wife has cancer. Our baby was just 6 months old at that time when Komali first had sudden high fevers and chills. After a week, she started vomiting blood. That scared us and we immediately rushed her to the hospital. It’s been a nightmare since then with regular hospital checkups and running behind people to borrow money. There was no one to even take care of our baby while we had to spend long hours in hospital.” – Lakshman, Husband

They thought their nightmare was over, but that wasn't the case

Lakshman has spent more than INR 5 lakh in the last 3 years on his wife's treatement. He works as a coolie and has not been able to go to work regularly as he has to look after his wife and daughter. He has no support from anyone and manages everything alone. His only wish is to save his wife. Unfortunately, all his efforts so far have gone in vain as his wife’s cancer has relapsed.

She is fighting this disease with sheer determination and against all odds

“My body could not handle the Chemotherapy sessions. I used to feel so weak and tired all the time. I could not even look after my baby. I had heavy vaginal bleeding and vomiting—it took all my energy, but my willpower to stay alive remained. That is the only thing that keeping up going right now. My husband has been through a lot to save me and I feel so guilty about it. Now, without 15 lakh rupees for the transplant, I may not make it.” – Komali

Komali’s life is in danger, without the transplant that costs beyond her means. Help her live and save this family from agony.
