My name is Jancy. I have a nine-year-old son called Vivin who was born with a rare blood disorder called Thalassaemia.
What is Thalassemia?
Thalassemia is a disease of the blood where there is increased destruction of the blood cells. Since such a patient does not have an adequate number of blood cells, they suffer from anaemia, which makes them extremely weak, dizzy and lightheaded. It can also cause an enlarged spleen and a damaged liver.
But the condition impacted Vivin a lot more. It stunted his development causing him to develop Autism (mental learning disability).
From the time he was a baby he has been distant from everyone, would never respond when I or my husband would call him and even physically he was very thin, pale and weak. Despite his battles with Autism and Thalessemia, Vivin is a very bright and cheerful child.
In the month of January this year, Vivin underwent a Bone Marrow Transplant where my husband was the donor. While the BMT was successful, Vivin needs special medication every month in order to continue fighting the disease. The medication costs around 20000 Rs a month and needs to be given to him for a year.
In January 2017 , Vivin underwent a Bone Marrow Transplant and now needs to be on medication for a year in order to recover.
I want my son to have a normal life but this will be very difficult given that he is Autistic. We have decided that once he gets better we will send him to a special school for children with learning disabilities where he will be given speech therapy and development.
My husband and I have spent all our life savings on his treatment and have now exhausted all our funds. We need any support we can get for Vivin's medication and treatment so that he can recover completely from the condition.
Vivin is full of life and loves dressing up.
