    This fundraiser will benefit

    Shrija Bera

    from Bally, West Bengal

I am Bhaskar Das. I am fundraising for my friend's daughter.

Once there was a very cute little girl. Although that girl is living now, yet why "was" used in previous sentence as her cuteness is diminish by repeated chemotherapy. Her name is Shrija Bera age 5 years, studying in upper KG. She was suffering from cough & cold so her parents decided to meet renowned child specialist Dr Apurba Ghosh on 8th May. Initially Dr. Ghosh suspected Thalassemia after seeing Shrija’s pale skin colour. He advised to do some blood test. As per his suggestion Srija's parents bring her to 'Roy & Trivedi pathological centre' for the said test. It was determined by the report that she is suffering from Acute Lymphobastic Leukaemia.  After that her parents consult a hematologist, she assure them that disease is curable but matter of huge expenses almost 8 lakh. Being a contractual staff his father not able to arrange money as per their need. Some relatives and political person helped her father to start the treatment. Thus Shrija admitted to Tata Medical Centre on 11th May. One bone marrow biopsy was done on 11th of May. After seeing the biopsy report Paediatric Hematologist Dr. Arpita Bhattacharyya advised steroid as she thought that ALL is on "standard risk". But after 7 days of treatment there was no improvement in WBC count.WBC not reduced as much as expected so Dr decided to treat as "High risk". After several test Shrija released from hospital and now undergo through chemotherapy. Every alternate day she visits with her parents to the Hospital and takes injection and chemotherapy in a week as per first protocol given by the hospital. Every Tuesday she visits Dr Arpita Bhattacharyya. Dr thinks she respond quite well to the treatment. This just the beginning of a marathon, marathon of life and we have to support her and her family to win the race.
