ONLY A SURGERY CAN HELP THIS 5 YEAR OLD’S BRAIN TO DEVELOP

Baby Shamily was born a fighter. She has fought against too many odds life has thrown at her during her five years- more than what most people face in a lifetime. Born as a severely premature baby, her parents- Kumar and Vasanthi is amazed at how far she has come. Proving her doctors wrong,  Shamily continued to amaze the medical world with her resilience.
“She was very tiny when she came into the world. She continued in the hospital for about 3 months after her birth – we weren’t sure she was going to make it. Because she was fighting hard for her life we wanted to do everything we can to help her through it” recalls her uncle.
Although Shamily was allowed to be brought to her home- the first time after she was born, she continued to be sick and had to be hospitalized every 10 days or so. As a result of all her infections and premature complications, Shamily continued to be underweight and frail. Her developmental milestones were delayed because of that. Shamily walked her first steps in front of her parents proud eyes when she was around two years of age. “Those days gave us hope”- says her uncle. This was when life hit them with an unexpected setback. Shamily’s parents started noticing that there was something wrong with her eyes. They noticed an unusual bulging of her eyes. Although, different doctors prescribed medicines, none of them worked. Her symptoms started worsening and more symptoms started appearing. That was when at Bangalore Baptist Hospital they learned about Shamily’s condition. Shamily was diagnosed with Multisutural Craniosynostosis with Arnold Chiari Malformation.
Craniosynostosis is a congenital(present at birth) condition where there are problems with the growth pattern of the skull and if untreated causes problems with brain growth and head shape including possible permanent head deformity, increased brain pressure, head deformity, seizures etc.
Surgery is the only option for baby Shamily. Surgery can help provide the necessary space for her brain to grow and can help avoid vision loss, impairment of mental development etc. Kumar earns his living by being a cook at a nearby Seminary. Being the only breadwinner of his family, the meager amount he earns hardly suffices for every need and he has to borrow money on some months to meet expenses. Baby Shamily being sick from the day she was born, he has already spent all his savings on her medicines and tests alone.  With her medical condition, Shamily is suffering a lot. She is not growing well and looks like a 2-year-old instead of a 5-year-old. If she is not operated on urgently, it can cause irreparable damage to her brain.Your kind contribution can save this baby’ girl’s life at :
