I’ve been lying on the floor of the waiting room every night for the past 10 days. It’s very cold and uncomfortable, but that’s not why I can’t sleep more than an hour at a time.
I keep thinking, will I… will I forget her face?
If she passes away, what if I can't remember my own daughter's face anymore?
– Rani, mother
When little Prachi woke up with her skin slightly flushed and running a temperature, Jitendar and Rani knew to rush her to a clinic. But when the prescribed medicines didn’t work even after a week, they sought a second opinion in a bigger hospital. That’s when they found out that not only does 4-month-old Prachi have bronchopneumonia, it had triggered a lethal condition called sepsis.
This family would be lost without their little baby girl
“I don’t know what I would do if I lost my Prachi. For 6 years I tried to have a daughter because my mother never had a girl child of her own, so she wanted at least a granddaughter. But three days before Rani gave birth to Prachi, my mother passed away. Sometimes I think she came back to me as my daughter.” – Jitendar, father
Little Prachi’s own body is killing her
Bronchopneumonia is a type of lung infection that, while serious, isn’t always life-threatening. But in poor Prachi’s case, her pneumonia got so serious that her body entered sepsis, a life-threatening reaction to infections. She already had great difficulty in breathing, eating, and sleeping. Now, she is in constant pain and discomfort, and often doesn’t understand what’s happening around her.Jitendar is struggling to afford the care that Prachi needs
"I am a dhol-player. I play at small functions and weddings in his town. My work is not steady, and the income is worse. Now, things are so bad that I am surviving on just 2 cups of tea a day, saving every rupee I can for my daughter’s treatment. But it will not be enough, not in time. She needs 4 lakhs!" – Jitendar
Kindly contribute as much as you can, and help save this little girl’s life.
