“My wife isn’t talking to anyone. Not even me. She just stares blankly even when I am trying to console her. The only time she speaks is when she sees our baby in the NICU for a few minutes. She whispers lullabies into his ears, hoping that he will wake up but…” - Ramesh, father. 

Kalavathi had labor pain during her eight month of pregnancy in October this year. She had to undergo an emergency C-section. Their twins were born preterm with low birth weight, their lives were in danger but Kalavathi and Ramesh thought they would fight. Unfortunately, their happiness turned into misery when they lost one of their babies. Their baby boy now has a severe lung infection and is struggling for every breath.

Everything changed in a matter of days

“6 years after our first daughter was born, Kalavathi got pregnant with twins. My wife and daughter would discuss every day whether it would be baby boys or baby girls. Our daughter wished for one of each. We never thought anything could go wrong but then everything changed in a matter of days. Now it's been over a month, and our baby boy is still fighting...” – Ramesh, father. 

Kalavathi and Ramesh’s baby boy is now on ventilator support and needs extensive medical care. The cost of the treatment is around 9 lakhs and is beyond his father’s means. Ramesh works as a daily wage labourer in a factory and earns a meager income. He has already spent around 4 lakhs in the last two months. All the money that he managed to raise is gone now and it still isn’t enough to save his baby.
