    Baby of Gayathri

    from Hyderabad, Telangana

It’s been 2 months since Chandra and Gayathri along with their 5-year-old child started living at the hospital. Their second child was born too early and is now fighting to survive every day. She is a survivor, but her parents cannot afford this fight anymore. Not only the cost of treatment, but these parents are also unable to afford food, water and shelter.

“I felt happy that my baby was coming early, just at 7 months. I did not know it would mean losing her. When I first saw her, she was already 3 days old. I watched her gasp for breath for hours. I couldn’t hold her, I couldn’t kiss her. I just felt like dying at that moment. Now, just as she is getting better, we have another problem.”- Gayathri, mother

These 3 weeks will determine if she gets to live the rest of her life

Gayathri's baby girl was born prematurely at 7 months of pregnancy and weighed just 700gm. The family struggled to keep her alive for 8 weeks and went to a different hospital for her speedy recovery. Now she is better but her family can't afford the treatment anymore.

“Till now, I somehow managed. In these 2 months I was forced to take loans from everyone I know. My family helped a lot. Now, I have nothing left. " - Chandra, father

As of now, Gayathri's baby weighs 1.3kg. She still needs blood transfusions and constant intensive care. This baby girl will be ready to meet the world after 3 more weeks in NICU care. Discontinuing treatment now would only worsen her condition, and it could be fatal.

"I lost my job because I was trying to be a good father"

Chandra worked at a private insurance company. He was fired from his job as he had to rush to his family's aid and be by his daughter's side. He was unable to go to work for weeks. Even now, his family needs him, but without any source of funds, he won't be able to save his baby girl.

“The hospital is around 200km away from home. How could I manage the work? We use the water tap outside the hospital to bathe or wash. We don’t know what else to do. We don’t know anyone here and rooms are costly.  The hospital is around 200km away from home. How could I manage the work? I am struggling to save every paisa on rent or food so I can pay her bills.” - Chandra

3 weeks will give Gayathri's baby a good chance at life. All she needs is your help to stay a little longer, get that care and then go home with her parents.
