Baby of Mariamma was born at 28 weeks gestation: BORN TOO SOON

I'm Manjunath. My wife, Mariamma, and I were expecting a baby after 3 years of marriage. Our joy knew no bounds when we found out that Mariamma was pregnant.

We were preparing for everything. Everything was going like clockwork. At 28 weeks gestation Mariamma’s health took a turn for the worse and she developed eclampsia. This meant that we had to deliver the baby early. Our delivery was done at Chaya Hospital and the baby was born at 01:53 pm and resuscitated and then transferred by the neonatal transport team of Ovum Hospital to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at OVUM Hospital, Banaswadi, Bangalore.

My baby was premature. His lungs were not mature and therefore he was put on the ventilator and given a medicine to help his lungs expand. I was completely in shock. On one hand, I had my wife Mariamma who was admitted to the adult ICU and on the other hand our little boy was fighting for his life in the NICU. It took a long time before we could see an improvement and just as when we thought he was improving he developed infection of the stomach. He was then put on maximum intensive care support and is now slowly making a recovery from it.

Mariamma was discharged after a few days from hospital and is slowly recovering. The doctors have told us that treatment and support for our boy can amount to approximately Rs. 8 lakhs until he recovers and with Rs. 14,000 salary, I cannot afford the cost. Even if we borrow, there is no way we can return it now as I have a young family to look after. The management has reduced the cost as he fulfilled their criteria for low cost bed. In addition, Nizhal Foundation has helped with the initial costs of his treatment.

I need your help now, to nurse my newborn boy back to health, and bring him home. Please extend your support.
