    This fundraiser will benefit

    Baby Diksha Bhujel

    from Chennai, Tamil Nadu

“When you see her, the first thing you would notice is her swollen belly and legs. They are filled with some kind of fluid, and cannot move her body at all because of this. All she does is cry all day.”- Koushila Debi, mother

Baby Diksha has been suffering from the time she was born. She has not achieved any milestones like normal babies, and neither does she coo or babble like them because she is in pain all the time. She was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a condition in babies, where the bile ducts outside and inside the liver are scarred and blocked. Bile can’t flow into the intestine, so it builds up in the liver and damages it. A liver transplant is the only way she can recover from this disease.

‘We had her after 7 long years of marriage… why did this happen to her?’

Koushila and her husband Debraj were married in 2014. They had dreams of becoming parents since then, but they were not able to conceive. Their prayers were finally answered when Baby Diksha was born in 2021. But their happiness was short-lived. Within a month of her birth, their baby's body started turning yellow, that has not gone away to this day. Her condition just kept getting worse with every passing day.

“Our baby has spent more time with doctors and nurses than she has with us. We can't count the number of injections she has received in this period. We cannot bear to watch her suffer like this. But, we are so helpless.” - Debraj.

These parents spent everything on her previous surgery, have nothing left now

On the advice of the doctor, Diksha underwent a procedure to correct her liver condition a few months ago. Her parents had to pool in every last rupee they had and sell off every precious thing they ever owned, for this purpose. Unfortunately, it was not successful, and Baby Diksha’s liver continues to sustain damage with every passing day. She needs a liver transplant urgently or she may lose her life.

“I work as a cook in Chennai, even though I am from Assam. We do not have a house here, neither can we get one on rent because we have no funds. We are staying at a friend’s house now, hoping that we are able to arrange some money on time for her transplant before things get worse.” - Debraj.

You are their only hope in saving their baby.
