    This fundraiser will benefit

    Bitasta Das

    from Kolkata, West Bengal

"Ever since my Bitasta came into this world, she has been fighting just to live another day. She was just 1 when her stomach started swelling up. Now cancer is taking her away from us, little by little, everyday. She was born to us after three miscarriages, our chance to finally be called Ma-Baba... Will we lose her too?" - Sudipta, mother.

Just when they thought their daughter was cancer-free, it relapsed

Bitasta was just a year old when she started having blood clots in her body. When they got her tests done, they found out she had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (blood cancer). They spent about 12 lakhs on her treatment in 2015, exhausting everything they had.

She had just started her school in the month of April, last year. They thought everything was going fine, but then they started seeing the same symptoms returning after 4 years, stronger than before. She started looking pale again, unable to walk even 2 steps without falling. Extremely tensed, her parents got her tested again. Her cancer was back.

Pallab hasn't been able to earn any money since October

Pallab has been anxiously hoping for another miracle. He thinks about how he will manage everything with his grocery shop shut right now. He hasn't opened his shop since October, losing even the Rs.3,000 he could make out of it. He is now sitting with pending medical bills exceeding his yearly income, unable to think of how he can arrange 10 lakhs for his only daughter. His relatives can't help him like earlier. Bitasta's smile is the only thing that is still keeping the hope alive in Pallab.

This father doesn't want his child to live the same life he had

"I've had polio since I was 2 years old. I have always been mocked for my handicap. When Bitasta recovered from cancer and went back to our village, I could see the kids doing the same to her because her face was swollen and she had become bald. I used to be very upset about it. I didn't want her to have the same life I had but she is so strong that I gain strength from her now. But when I visit her at the hospital and she hugs me and asks 'Baba, ami aajke ghor jaabo?' (Baba, will I go home today?), I can't help but break down," - Pallab, father

Bitasta needs chemotherapy to fight her cancer again. She bears those painful chemicals only because she understands this will help her get well soon. She fought cancer once and won but if her parents can't arrange 10 lakhs more, she will lose the fight. Pallab and Sudipta will lose their only child just because this time they didn't have enough money to save her.
