When local animal rescuers in Kerala reached out to us on August 19th, we knew we couldn’t just stand back and watch as thousands of animals were left to die. Although ResQ is a Pune-based organisation, we didn’t think twice about sending 3 vehicles (including one Large Animal Ambulance) on a 30-hour drive, packed with animal rescue manpower, food and water, and medical supplies enough to treat over 300+ animals. After making a few stops along the way to drop off supplies for local animal welfare groups, our 6-person team of animal rescuers (including 1 veterinarian) jumped right into the thick of things. Traveling by boat into Kerala’s most water-logged areas, the team has been providing food and medical assistance to stranded animals both large and small. There are hundreds of animals who are completely abandoned, injured or hungry since days and battling the cold. The RESQ team has been working round the clock rescuing dogs, cows, goats, chicken, birds and more from this state.
