An unknown fracture was the first symptom of his Bone Cancer
The way Abdulla fell to the ground, it hardly seemed like anything more than just a twisted ankle. The doctor had bandaged his leg and put him on bed rest for a few weeks. Days went by, but his pain kept aggravating him and they decided to go for an X-ray. Shockingly, it turned out to be a fracture and this little boy was enduring the pain for a week, without a proper cast.2 months later, Nazeerudin and Bilkis found out that their youngest son actually has Osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. Seeing their son suffer a fracture with just a mild fall made them realize the gravity of this cancer - Abdulla's bones have gotten extremely weak and brittle. Right now, if Abdulla gets timely Chemotherapy and Surgery then his cancer will localize to the limb area and not spread to other parts of his body.
If they delay his surgery further, this cancer won't spare her son's limbs
Abdulla's mother, Bilkis, is deaf and mute since birth. Even though she can't express in words how harrowing it is for her to see her son suffer, she communicates her pain through sign language."Little did I realize that would be the last day I would be seeing my son walk on his two feet by himself. It's been 3 months and this cancer has bound him to this hospital bed in a condition where he is unable to even bend his leg. She broke down when her son had to tell her about his cancer
Prior to the mishap, Nazeerudin and Bilkis were a happy family, with 4 kids who shared an inseparable bond with each other. Nazeerudin has trouble taling to Bilkis through sign language, and Abdulla is the only one who learnt how to communicate fluently with his mother."I couldn't help but weep bitterly when Abdulla told me about his cancer. He had to tell me about it himself, and it broke my heart. At that moment, I wished my son didn't have to hear those terrifying words, but I was helpless since only he could tell me the details and explain the do's and don'ts." - Bilkis, mother
This autorickshaw driver has no means left to afford his son's treatment now
Abdulla is clueless about how this cancer can hinder his future at the young age of 13. He has lost a lot in the past few months, from sacrificing his schooling to staying away from his siblings and friends. But what hurts him the most is seeing his Ammi and Abbu cry helplessly because of his cancer.Nazeerudin is an autorickshaw driver and even though it was beyond his capacity, he still took loans and spent INR 3.5 lakhs on Abdulla's treatment. Now for him to arrange another INR 8 lakhs is a distant dream.
