Help establish library and sports facility in a school in Orissa.
This campaign targets to establish library and sports facility in Gram Vikas Residential school, Kankia, Odisha. The school is within forest reserves and more than 90% of the 500 children who attend this school are from tribal communities. This school has been established by an NGO Gram Vikas which is focused on providing quality education for the tribal children. Gram Vikas has experience of 40 years of working with tribal communities of Odisha to address their critical needs of education, health, safe drinking water, sanitation, livelihoods and alternative energy in a manner that is sustainable, socially inclusive, gender equitable and empowering. Vijay and Shruti currently head the school as Principal and teacher respectively.
Vijay holds an engineering degree from NIT, Trichy and a PhD from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He has always been interested in making STEM education available to rural India. He also feels that sports are an important part of the curriculum. Currently, he is working as the Principal of Gram Vikas Residential school, Kankia, Odisha.
Shruti is a graduate in Life sciences and a post graduate in Environmental Science. She had realised long ago the importance of reading for improving one's language. She is keen on setting up a library in Gram Vikas Residential School where she is currently working as a teacher.
We plan to use the funds for populating the library, sports equipment and memory cards for already purchased Raspberry pi devices as follows:
1. Library - Rs. 30,000
2. Sports facility - Rs. 35,000
3. Memory cards - Rs. 15,000
