Humane Animal Society (Coimbatore) was set up as a nonprofit over a decade ago to help injured/stray/abandoned animals in Coimbatore. We perform Animal Birth Control (ABC) in the west ward of the city and conduct regular Anti-Rabies Vaccination (ARV) drives to keep the spread of rabies in check. We also rescue, treat, and rehabilitate many injured and abandoned animals and get hundreds of dogs and cats adopted each year. More than 500 animals pass through our two shelters for ABC, treatment, rehabilitation, and adoption each month.
We have had to scale down our rescue operations and adoption drives drastically for the past year due to a severe money crunch. We are just about able to manage our other expenses – food, staff salaries, and medicines.
We have two locations - a veterinary hospital in the city at Seeranaickenpalayam, which houses our ABC unit, and a sanctuary outside the city in Vazhukuparai, that has our permanent residents. Our permanent residents are mostly disabled animals who would not be able to survive on their own in the outside world. We have 45 dogs, 5 cats, a horse, and a cow at our sanctuary. Our staff of 13 work hard to manage both locations and all our animals.
We are aiming to raise INR 2.75 Lakhs (USD 4300), which will feed these animals for a year - it costs us INR 750 (USD 12) to feed them for a day. This will enable us to focus more on rescues and adoptions, which have been sorely neglected for more than a year now. Our animals are fed rice, milk, meat, Pedigree/Whiskas, cattle feed, bran, horse gram etc.
Any amount that you can contribute will go a long way in feeding our animals and keeping them healthy and happy – no amount is too small. You can make a difference in the life of a helpless creature by donating today!
Donations can be made in any currency. Donors who file taxes in India are eligible for exemption under Section 80(G).
