If you walk in the by-lanes of Roshan Nagar, you'll see tiny kids laughing & running around chasing a kitty or playing hopscotch. However, most run around barefoot & are prone to infectious diseases that can be easily prevented by simply wearing footwear. 

The children come from families of labourers, street hawkers and scrap dealers who can barely afford three meals a day. They live in lanes which are narrower than your cupboard and houses that end as soon as they begin. There is barely a sewage system in place & open drains are right outside their homes. It puts them at direct risk for contaminating water borne infections. 

Most times, the children are left unattended & like all children, they find fun things to do anywhere. We go to amusement parks or the local swimming pool to play with water, the kids in Roshan Nagar play at open drains and with dirty water gushing out of washing machines. They play without footwear and it is a common sight to see multiple bruises on their little feet. 

This Daan Utsav - India's festival of giving, I am fundraising to gift recycled footwear to 500 children in Roshan Nagar, in DG Halli - a slum near Tannery road, Bangalore. 

The cost of refurbishing and logistics for one footwear is 199 INR. Not only are the shoes long lasting, they do good to Mother Nature by keeping old footwear away from landfills & reducing carbon footprint. 

The shoe sizes are already collected with the help of local volunteers in the area and the kids are waiting for probably their first footwear ever! I believe a little bit can go a long way so let's join together to gift them footwear to run without hurdles and play securely!
