Kunanakoppalu a small village situated around 120 km from Bangalore, had just one government run primary school with 25 students. The school had only one teacher teaching from class (grade) 1 to 5. However, the situation improved in April 2009. Volunteers from Bangalore took up the task of supporting the school and helping these children by taking classes in subjects that were challenging. Along with the 25 children from Kunanakoppalu, another 10 children studying in Chottanahalli Government High School, situated nearby also got tuitions from these volunteers. In 2008 the school had zero pass percentage in Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exams. In a year's time there was a new surge among the village children to learn and educate themselves. The results was quite evident, all the children of Chottanahalli High School tutored by the volunteers passed their SSLC in March 2009. This resulted in the appointment of a teacher who would tutor village children. The Bangalore based volunteers paid his salary. It was quite clearly noticeable that after the Bangalore based volunteers started their project in the village, children have taken interest and improved in their studies. Initially, our goal was to stop large scale dropout of children from village schools, train the villagers on importance of education. This was achieved by the organization through various events in the areas of health, personality development and sports. One of the Bangalore based volunteer continues to provide this service with all vigor and passion.
Moving with the Idea of inclusive transformation of the village, GRDT initiated the idea of involving the local bodies, residents and women in the development of the village. To seed this idea Gnanavi Rural Development Trust was launched. The trust would focus on three main areas, namely - Free and high quality education, Natural farming & Employment generation. We are focusing towards making the three visions of the trust to be effective, practically achievable and sustainable. We are determined to achieve these goals, systematically, stage by stage and phase by phase. As engineers first, we believe that any problem should be solved logically in a systematic manner based on extensive research. Therefore we are focusing on providing free and high quality education to the village children. The first stage, and the most important stage for providing free and quality education, has already begun. The trust has obtained three acres of land donated by the villagers for the construction of the new Government school building. The building construction plan has been approved by education department and the Government of Karnataka State. Appreciating this unique idea the Government in the first phase, we have planned to construct the ground floor, the new government school developed by the trust and private partners will be developed to provide free modern education to the village children belonging to the nearby areas. We have come up with the vacation plan for the execution of the day to day activities, recruiting and training of teachers, development of excellent sports ground, laboratory facilities, installation of high speed broadband, installation of solar panels to achieve independence in power. Also, half an acre of land has been allotted for training the students on the benefits of natural farming, which we believe is very important. Today, to realize this project we are counting on you. You can make an immediate difference in the life of these villagers. Please send the most generous contribution you can, as soon as possible and invest in the future.
We thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to receiving any form of support you can offer. If you require additional information on the project, please feel free to get in touch with us any time. Once again, thank you for your consideration and generosity.
