Support Vulnerable Children tide over the Covid Crisis

Tax benefits
While the Covid crisis has affected every single individual on the planet; the poor, marginalised and vulnerable are disproportionately impacted due to various socio-economic reasons. Even worse are children who are outside the care and protection of families i.e children who rely entirely on the community to protect them.

Covid Response: A Covid Outreach conducted by Guardians of Dreams revealed that several Child Care Institutions (like orphanages, shelter homes) that provide care and protection to our most vulnerable children have been hit badly due to this crisis. Their in-kind donations have been wiped clean and with zero walk-in donors -- they are struggling to make ends meet and provide for the large number of children under their roof.

Guardians of Dreams has set up a Covid Relief Fund for Shelter Homes that will provide essential provisions, groceries and financial support to shelter homes & orphanages that are in dire need. This fund will provide the immediate assistance required to help them tide over this crisis.

Appeal: Our vulnerable children depend entirely on the generosity of the community they live in. Please contribute to the Covid Relief Fund for Shelter Homes and help protect the lives of our most vulnerable children. Let’s strive to be the community that will enable our children to not just survive, but thrive!

About us: Guardians of Dreams is a non-profit organisation (based in Bangalore) working to improve the living conditions of children across Child Care Institutions like orphanages and shelter homes in Bangalore, Chennai and Cochin.

Emergency Response:

On 24th March, once the lockdown was announced, we made calls to 200+ CCIs in our network to understand their preparedness and to check-in if they were doing fine. We classified CCIs into “Red” , “Orange” and “Green”, where “Red” CCIs were the CCIs that needed immediate support with supplies or financial assistance to tide through the lockdown period.  22 CCIs were classified as in the "Red" zone.

During this phase, we impacted 896 children from across 22 CCIs by delivering essential supplies or financial aid.

Testimonials from CCIs:

"The support reached us right on time when we did not
know how to manage the lockdown. We, the children
and staff, thank you from the bottom of our heart." - Shelter Authority

"Thank u so much for everything
God bless all of u who take care of children's dreams." - Shelter Authority

"We thank you for your contribution. We will
be praying for you and your mission. Thank you
very much for all your efforts." - Shelter Authority

Restoration Program:

Based on our communication with 200+ homes, it was clear that many of the CCIs relied on walk-in donors and meals sponsorship as their channel to raise donations to meet a majority of their monthly costs - like provisions, groceries, utility bills etc. These channels have come to a standstill in the aftermath of the Covid crisis, which has led to CCIs struggling to make ends meet.

With your support, we have been able to build a safety net for 1000 children across 51 CCIs in Bengaluru, Chennai & Cochin. This support is spread out over June, July and August, and will help Children's Homes tide over this crisis and ensure a safe space and quality care for our children.

Your support has been crucial to making this possible! We are very grateful to all 749 of you who joined us in enabling quality care for vulnerable children living in Children's Homes.

As your support has flowed in over the last few weeks, we have been able to reach 100 more children with the assistance of the officers at Bengaluru City Police. Essential supplies were dropped off to 3 Children's Homes in the city that were running low on provisions. 2 Children's Homes were supported with Financial Aid, so they could continue to give quality care to the children despite the low influx of donors.

438 children have been supported with your help across Bengaluru, Chennai and Kochi. We aim to reach all children who live in Children's Homes who are in need of urgent assistance during these challenging times, and can do this only through the safety net that you are helping build!

Dear Supporters,

Thank you all for supporting some of India’s most vulnerable children during the covid-19 lock-down across Bangalore, Kochi and Chennai.

Your contribution has helped us

- distribute non-perishables (rice, dal, oil etc.), baby food, soaps and other supplies across 4 homes in Kochi, catering to 140 children.

- give financial support to 4 Children’s Homes in Chennai who were struggling to meet expenses for groceries, provisions, electricity/water, rent etc.
These 4 homes care for 200 children under their roofs, and now have enough support to continue doing so for the duration of the lockdown.

Thank you for your generosity which has made this possible! :)

According to our data, there are currently 35 more homes, which we have identified as being at risk due to scarcity of donations due to the lock-down.
We are working on understanding their needs and are counting on your support to help them tide over this difficult time.
