My mother,  Uma Devi , who has been a caring and devoted Math teacher for children for 26 years, is battling a critical illness....
RECTAL Cancer, Stage 3.

This is an appeal for support to her and my family.

Colostomy surgery was done at Manipal Hospital, Bangalore on 23/10/2018

She has been undergoing Radiation from 30/10/2018 at Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Centre, Bangalore, India, since it takes 1/2 hr from home to reach hospital and the medical insurance is falling short of the huge expenses involved.

Colostomy surgery in October was followed by 31 days of radiation. Another surgery is due in January  2019.

She had constipation problem with pain radiating to left leg from butt and lower back pain. We couldn't diagnose why she was having all these problems, shuttled between many hospitals for past 1 and half year, met many ortho doctors, took all tests, MRI, did physiotherapy but no use. Day and night suffering from severe pain, no sleep, spent lakhs of money for treatment and medicines.

3 months back, my mom's friend took her to one hospital, there Dr doubted and took Sigmoidoscopy and found tumour in rectum, did biopsy and said it is cancer. We lost our hope after struggling so much there is no cure and finally we came to know it as Rectal Cancer.

We couldn't accept it, I took mom to one more hospital since 1st report was not accurate, took 2nd biopsy, then went to hospitals in chennai for treatment. They said to take one more biopsy but I didn't want my mother to suffer taking biopsy as they wish, took many opinions from doctors, took colonoscopy, got exact report and confirmed it as cancer from final biopsy from good endoscopy Centre at Chennai.

Then at present taking treatment at bangalore. Along with previous pain, now having pain in motion passage because of radiation. She was on liquid diet for almost a year, now able to eat little after colostomy.

After starting to use colostomy bag, it is leaking frequently, it is mental pressure for her and family to change bag often. Cost of bags, fee for nurse, everything is difficult. Doctors have told it will be permanent colostomy since entire rectum will be removed in upcoming surgery.

My mom and I have not even thought that we will be in this kind of situation suffering with cancer. She has helped many students but now she is suffering from Rectal Cancer.

I am taking care of my mother and have had to give up my job to make myself available for the frequent hospital visits and the nursing care at home .My younger brother, Gokul , is still in school .

I appeal to you to pray for my mother's complete recovery soon and also to come forward , to support my family in whatever way you can .
Doctors are hopeful that with adequate medical support she will make slow and gradual progress.
We have a long medical battle ahead of us and so humbly urge you to help us in this hour of need .
