Taboo Statements:
"During our periods we are not allowed to touch the tubewell and we have to go to the nearby river to take our bath"
"We are not allowed to touch the pickle as it would become rotten"
"We are not allowed to discuss about the deadly menstrual cramp as they believe that upon discussion with another lady/girl she would have to feel the same pain during her next menstrual cycle"
"I bleed heavily for around ten days during my period but my parents donot take me to the doctor instead they bring some local zaribootis"
The above mentioned statements are just few examples of myths and taboos related to menstruation in our state Assam.Girls' donot know about the biological process they are going through during menstruation.We want to put a full stop to these baseless beliefs.Hence we decided to start our awareness programme titled With You to educate adolescent girls about menstruation and the hygiene that has to be maintained during periods.

“With You” to make them influential and significant on adolescent health, menstruation hygiene and unwanted touch.
Rational of the project:
Satirtha is experiencing about the different health issues occurring in different district of the state of Assam. Presently the organisation is working with many adolescent girls and women of different community of the state. Every girl has the right to live with dignity for the protection and to improve the good practise of menstrual hygiene management for a healthy life. In india, the state of assam at the district of nagaon the rural areas of the district the access of information, knowledge and entitlement are considerably poor which leads to improper menstrual hygienic practises, adolescents girls are affected in much larger numbers.
As the program with you works on three different points mainly on adolescent health, menstruation hygiene and unwanted touch but this project mainly works on the menstruation hygiene about adolescent girls who do not have the excess to sanitary napkins.
Target areas and beneficiaries:
As it can be seen that in most of the remote areas of Assam women are not accessible to sanitary napkins. Though ASHA workers provide them, but during flood as most of the areas are flooded affected during monsoon for which it is difficult for the Primary Health Center (PHC) and Community Health Center (CHC) to get access to sanitary napkins for which Satirtha is trying to help women to get the sanitary napkin, as for now the target is only the remote areas of Nagaon district. While it can be found that most of the remote areas of the state have the same issue but Satirtha is targeting only the remote areas of the Nagaon district and also will target other remote parts of the state.
Outcomes:
As Satirtha has been going to different remote areas with adolescent girl where they have found they girls who are perusing their higher secondary education are more or less aware about their menstruation health and even try to consult with the doctor working with the organisation. It came to notice that elderly women who are not that educated they prefer homely remedies instead of going to a doctor they prefer local Vedic treatment or do self medication, instead of sanitary napkins they prefer to use cloths for which they suffer from different types of vaginal infection. Even there are women who believe menstruation is a curse for which they have to suffer every month. So Satirtha have educated them about menstruation telling it is a natural process, with the help of doctor and also with the help of medical science.
sustainability:
The project is sustainable for a long term period in district of the state. As it can be found that most of the women know about sanitary napkins but they were not accessible in the remote areas, though napkins are being distributed by the ASHA workers but it was not available to areas who are blood affected every year and it becomes difficult for the ASHA workers to get the sanitary napkins.
So we are requesting all to help us
