Low Income Families Affected By COVID

    from New Delhi, Delhi

On the occasion of Royston’s birthday, we’re raising funds for Sang, a COVID relief initiative, managed by his YIF friends that assists severely affected communities across Delhi. Being so far away, we’re celebrating by doing something special, extending our hand and making this day meaningful for him!

Extend your hand and spread the word to celebrate Royston’s birthday and make this day special and memorable for him!

Sang actively reaches out to communities and provides them with essentials to tide over this pandemic. 14,000+ individuals have been impacted till date.

Highlights of SANG work:
  1. We have raised Rs. 8.6+ lakhs and have distributed dry ration and sanitary equipment like pads and soaps to more than 13,500 individuals all over Delhi, in areas like Khyber Pass, Vidhan Sabha, Majnu ka Tila, Badarpur, Bhatti mines and Madanpur Khadar extension.
  2. We also reached out to 17 families in urgent need of ration in the Himalayan village of Dudkanedhar in Uttarakhand.
  3. We have collaborated with organizations like Saajha, Udayam Trust and Paigam.
  4. Project NOOR from Indraprastha College for Women, University of Delhi, is now the official partner of Sang.
  5. We have partnered with Walmart for bulk supply ration and with Chaudhary group for noodle packets.
  6. Sang has been verified by multiple platforms including The Optimist Citizen.
  7. A new campaign #SabKeSang has been launched by Sang to connect women and children in need of aid against crimes like domestic and sexual violence with organizations and individuals that can do the requisite. For this, we have partnered with Bachpan Bachao Andolan.
  8. Sang is facilitating the journey of migrant workers back home by getting them registered for the journey-an exercise that requires significant technical expertise.

Who are we?
We are a SANG (संग),  group of young individuals who have come together with a simple motto in our hearts: "Locking down hunger, together" to aid communities who are, unfortunately, seeing their lives crash in front of their eyes during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

What are we doing?
We are collecting funds that are being used to supply food (wheat, rice, daal, and oil) and soap to families facing the worst backlash in this 21-day lockdown. We are targeting a community of at least 1000 families. We will expand as and when we get to know more communities in need. Total amount needed: Rs. 10,00,000 .

Battles are to be fought on every front in this trying time and while we cannot fight them all, we are determined to do whatever we can.

All of us have the passion to do our bit in these tough times and most of us have the experience of working with the communities of migrants and daily wage earners who struggle to put food on the table when we continue to lead normal lives.. This situation has reduced their resources to naught. Since many of them are deprived of documents essential to get government aid, there is little hope on that front. There are about a thousand such families that we know of and we are determined to help them survive and emerge from this dark phase.

How are we doing it?
The members working for our initiative belong to different parts of the country and so we are working to aid several communities at once by collaborating and working alongside local NGOs and several local members based near the targeted communities. Our plan of action is to identify ration shops with the required essentials in the vicinity of the communities. Funds generated by this campaign shall be spent at these specific shops to procure pre-made aid kits. The kits containing wheat, rice, daal, and oil and soap will be distributed in the community under the vigil of trustworthy community leaders (identified by our members), equipped with safety kits to avoid the spread of the infection and constant updates shall be taken from the field to ensure that this campaign runs smoothly.

The above model has been successfully channelized in the North Delhi (Majnu Ka Tila, Vidhan Sabha, and Khyber Pass) region of the capital. These are small starting points, with your support we hope to cover communities across India.

Why are we doing it?
Honestly, because we care and we know you do too. Our hearts go out to those running the risk of starvation, but the lockdown precludes us from feeding them first-hand. We have thus, kick-started this initiative. The world needs your love and support more than ever before. Let it flow!

What have we done so far?
We have been engaging and coordinating with the community in North Delhi (Majnu Ka Tila, Vidhan Sabha, and Khyber Pass), community leaders and the ration shops. In just two days of kickstarting, our team has raised Rs 1,00,000 and is reaching out to 54 families who are in critical condition. These are small starting points, with your support we hope to cover communities across India.
Battles are to be fought on every front in this trying time and while we cannot fight them all, we are determined to do whatever we can.

The world needs your love and support more than ever before. Let it flow!
