Nationwide lockdown to limit the COVID-19 transmission had unintended consequences for the poorest and most vulnerable. With very little savings and a poor social security net, these people are having fewer meals, borrowing money and are facing penury and deprivation. Hunger and desperation prevail and it is important that in times like this we show solidarity and come forward to help our fellow beings.
Who we are
PAHAL - People’s Action against Hunger Abjection and Loss of Livelihood
PAHAL is a group formed by volunteers committed to provide basic minimum sustenance to the section of society which is most affected by the devastating outbreak of Covid-19. These include daily wage earners, migrant workers, street vendors, beggars, senior citizens, orphans, etc.
Our core team comprises of DPS Ranchi Alumni, NIRD Hyderabad Alumni, BITians, Alumni of St.Xavier College, XISS and ex-PMRDFs.
Money raised will be used for:
Providing fortnight worth of dry ration packages comprising 20 kgs Rice, 3 kg Pulses, 1 kg Salt, 200 gms Essential Spices and 2 bar of Soaps to needy households and individuals (in proportion). The cost of feeding and sustaining a family of four for a fortnight is only INR 1000.
We procure in bulk from the wholesale market in Ranchi at competitive prices and distribute the provision packages in different areas of Ranchi based on a hub and spoke model.
We started this initiative in association with the Ranchi District Administration and provide door-to-door distribution of the items to the indigent individuals whose details are made available by the administration. The district administration arranges the list based on demands it receives via various mediums like helpline, twitter, etc. We have also started organizing camps in villages and slums primarily inhabited by daily wagers, migrant workers, etc.
Various stakeholders like Civil Society Members, SHGs, etc are involved in the process and we follow a participatory mechanism to ensure that we deliver the items to the neediest section. The guidelines issued by the government are adhered to ensure responsible delivery. Not only do we distribute ration, efforts are undertaken to create awareness regarding the precautions to be taken during this pandemic like maintaining social distancing, hygiene measures like washing hands, Govt helpline numbers, etc.
The vision of all the concerned persons involved is the service of humanity and there is no discrimination based on caste, religions, gender, etc.
PAHAL has distributed dry ration packets amongst ~1400 needy individuals through the contributions received from friends and families. We intend to support at least 5000 people struggling for basic sustenance during this adversity. Please donate and help us support these people in this time of need.
This is a 100% not for profit campaign, and we will disclose the use of proceeds in a financial transparency report sent to all contributors to the campaign.
