My Father in Law, 64 Years Old was admitted with Nausea and drowsiness. Later it was realized that he was low on sodium. So, he was shifted to ICU immediately.

Next day he had an episode of an aspiration and Cardiac Arrest in ICU and he was intubated and ventilated and revived after one cycle of CPR as per ACLS protocol. He was out of ventilator after 4 days since there was some improvement, but he was reintubated to ventilator because his condition deteriorated. Lumbar puncture was done and CSF was drawn for an analysis because there was no response from him.

Because of continuous support on ventilator, Tracheostomy was done. Later he was removed out of ventilator since he was breathing independently. MRI scans revealed that there was an inflammation in brain because of which he couldn’t respond and he is in Locked-in state.

He was in ICU for 26 days and later he was moved to isolation ward for nursing care. He got discharged after 14 days in isolation ward.

Presently he is bedridden. As per Doctor's input, he would need time to recover and daily nursing care is required.

The total incurred expense is 16.24 Lakh Rupees for 40days of hospitalization. We got support from insurance company for 8Lakh Rupees, for the rest we are in a financial crisis.
