Today our country is going through an unprecedented humanitarian crisis of herculean proportions. The second wave of Covid-19 has been on a rampage for the past few weeks in the Indian subcontinent, devastating and taking away many precious lives. Harrowing visuals of people desperate for supplies, especially oxygen, have been coming in from all around the country. The situation has been especially dire in the national capital, with oxygen cylinders becoming a distant dream for most people here. The oxygen shortage is dire, with cylinders being black-marketed for upto 2 lakhs due to the shortfalls in supply. It was clear something had to be done about the oxygen shortage in Delhi, so that even the poorest of citizens are enabled to get the care they deserve and require.
In light of the crisis, the Students of Shri Ram College of Commerce have decided to collectively join hands with Doctors For You, an organisation carrying out exemplary work in the field of covid relief. Therefore, our primary objective would be to supplement their efforts by funding the establishment of an oxygen plant. We plan to set up an oxygen plant which can produce 150 litres of oxygen per minute and can serve around 20-30 beds at a time. It is to be set up at the Commonwealth Games Centre, which has been converted into a 500-bed free-of-cost covid-care facility and is primarily handled by Doctors For You.
Work until Now:
Doctors For You (https://doctorsforyou.org/) is a registered Society (F-56886 Mum) headquartered in Mumbai and established in 2007 by doctors & medical students with a vision to achieve “Health for all”. The organisation has demonstrated exemplary public service in disaster response across India and in South-Asian countries. So far DFY has intervened in more than 28 disaster-level incidents including the 2015 Nepal Earthquake and the Rohingyan Refugee crisis.
Doctors For You has been working towards tackling the COVID-19 crisis since March 2020 in more than 18 states across India. In Delhi, DFY is currently managing a total of 2500 Covid Beds at various locations like CWG Stadium, Yamuna Sports Complex, Shehnai Banquet Hall, Rouse Avenue School and the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), NOIDA.
