You can help fuel our fire – turn the blue mountains of Nilgiris into a bustling soccer hub

Nilgiris, the tiny district in Tamil Nadu is contained within the Nilgiri mountain range. The area is replete with untapped soccer talent.The high altitude (approximately 2200 m above sea level), lush green backdrop, fresh air and genetic factors (the area is inhabited by indigenous tribes like Toda, Kota, Kurumba, Irula, etc.) are some of the reasons cited to explain this phenomenon. But what is heartrending is that the district lacks the exposure and the resources required to train and nurture these potential champs. Most of them are from meager backgrounds and often ignored. F.C. Bisons is a soccer club dedicated to nurturing these budding talents in and around Nilgiris. We believe in the motto: ‘Hearts afire!’. If there is talent, passion and the urge to excel, we’ll do whatever it takes to fuel that fire.
With ample lot of gifted players to foster, we are working towards turning the district into a soccer destination. And the first step towards this goal is to develop a well-equipped football ground. Apart from attracting soccer associations from other districts to come and compete, the revenue received from conducting tournaments and ticket sales will help us further the cause. Some of the goals we hope to achieve are:

To put the highest quality football on the field
To spot and nurture more and more talented footballers in the Nilgiris region
To give them training, exposure and the platform they deserve
To mold them into players of great caliber who might one day play for clubs national and international
To get the government authorities and media to sit up and take note of the rising football fever in the region
To promote our grassroots football program (BabyBisons)for children between 3-7 and YoungBrigadeBisons (7 -16) years. We are partnering with nurseries, schools and colleges as part of this initiative.

Why soccer?

Football’s intense loyalty, whether fed by family tradition or regional pride, is an emotional experience.
Even though cricket dominates our mainstream sports arena, there exists a strong football following across the country. But when it comes to corporate sponsorship and media exposure, the game lags behind. We intend to change that and believe someone with a natural flair for the game must be nurtured and encouraged. The fire within their hearts must be stoked and flared up. Afterall, that’s how champions are born.

NOTE: The ground will be developed by Random Acts of Kindness Forum - A section 8 non profit, which has leased the land with the larger objective of developing footballing infrastructure & promoting grass roots football in the Nilgiris
