It’s been just 2 years since my 28-year-old son, Suhas started his career. Our happiness knew no bounds when he got a job in a private company. Just when his dreams began materializing, a cruel fate attacked him. Blood cancer has taken over his life and his future is now bleak.

My name is Kumaraswamy. My wife Poornima and Suhas, live with me in Mysore. I make a modest income working in a small shop. Yet we never needed additional financial support in all these years, even as I educated my son.

My son has grown into a young, responsible young man. Poornima and I just started planning for his marriage. Instead of meeting prospective families, we spend sleepless nights worrying that we might lose our only son forever.

We were living our normal lives. He was a very healthy young man and rarely complained of a fever. This time, however, his temperature kept spiking up for weeks. We thought it was a viral fever but the local doctors sensed something unusual referred us to a big hospital. The tests there revealed that my seemingly healthy son actually has Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a severe form of blood cancer.

Since then, our lives have never been the same again. Suhas was one of the most social people I have ever met. He is now in a private ward so that he doesn’t catch infections. A few days back, an infection almost took his life. In the past month, he went through rigorous cycles of chemotherapy. Unfortunately for us, his cancer just got worse. He needs a stem cell transplant to make it.
We didn’t even get enough time to understand what is happening and before we could prepare ourselves, we see that he is dying. Suhas has now stopped talking to us. He has no strength to do anything anymore. Even moving an arm makes him tired. He just stares at the walls. He is upset because he can’t go to work now. I wish it was me instead of him.

I knew Poornima is one of the strongest souls. But I had no idea that cancer would break my wife. She sits by Suhas for hours in his private ward. She laughs and smiles to cheer him up. As soon as she comes out of the ward, she breaks down every single time. I try to put on a very strong front for him, but deep down we all have the same fear on our minds.

I make only Rs 400/day when I go to work. I work weekends too sometimes to make more for the family. Now, the cost of Suhas’ hospital bed is Rs 7000 per day. The little savings that I had from all these years is gone. Suhas had started working before the diagnosis and had to quit. His salary also went towards the treatment.

In just 12 days I have spent Rs 6 lakhs. Some of our relatives have helped us with Rs. 100 and a little more. Regardless it has been hard to come up with Rs. 30 lakhs for his transplant. I need help to save my son from cancer. He has a long life and a promising future ahead of him. Please help me.

Your support will give these parents back their only son
