    Ekanshi Pradhan

    from New Delhi, Delhi

As the clock strikes 5 in his office, Hemanta starts feeling restless. He wants to go back home as soon as possible. But it's not because he is in a hurry to get off work, but only because he wants to be with little Ekanshi (1.6), his daughter. Since Ekanshi was born a year back, all Hemanta has wanted to do in his free time is to play with her and cuddle her. She is his little angel but unfortunately for the last 10 months, his daughter has been very sick. She has a chronic liver disease and now the doctors have told that only a liver transplant can help her live a healthy life.

The family used to go for regular temple visits

Looking at the suffering of his baby, Hemanta can’t help but be angry at the gods

After a number of visits to the nearby temple in their village Bagara in Koraput, Odisha, a baby girl was born to Hemanta and Mili. The young couple was overwhelmed with joy. Mili was certain that it was due to the grace of the goddess. But now baby Ekanshi is not well at all. Her liver is failing and her growth is stunted. The pain in her stomach doesn't allow her to eat properly and she weighs just 6 kgs.

“What did we do wrong that Ekanshi is going through so much suffering? I feel angry and hopeless. I am desperate to save my baby but I don’t know what to do,” - Hemanta, father.

Braving the atrocious winters in Delhi, Hemanta is doing everything in his hands for Ekanshi

10 months back, Ekanshi was throwing up everything she ate. Medicines were only of temporary respite and soon she started showing other symptoms like that of a swollen stomach. Her feet were also swollen and her skin was showing a slightly yellowish tinge. The parents were scared and decided to take her to Delhi. There they got to know about their daughter’s critical condition. She needs a liver transplant at the earliest, but the parents are afraid that they won’t be able to afford it.

“It is terribly cold in Delhi now and every time we take Ekanshi to the doctor in an auto, we are scared that she might get even more sick. But we can’t afford to take her in a cab. The helplessness I feel being a father cannot be described in words.”

You can bring back hope to these parents who are struggling to save their baby

Hemanta’s job in a private company fetches him only a modest income and with that, it is difficult to run his family. Affording a liver transplant for Ekanshi is almost like an impossible dream for them. The transplant would cost him around Rs 14.5 lakhs and he has already spent Rs 60,000-70,000. Hemanta has few acres of land, back at home. He is planning to sell that to start the tests. Both Mili and he are willing to be the donor but it’s the money that they are worried about. Your generous contribution can bring back the lost happiness of this family and give little Ekanshi a new lease of life.
