    from Darjeeling, West Bengal

I am Umesh Prasad Gomes, a research graduate from Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa, Italy. My research focusses on nanoscience and nanotechnology. I am an Indian citizen, born and brought up in Darjeeling. West Bengal, India. My ancestral home is in a village called Rajapakar,Kushinagar district, Uttar Pradesh. Although Kushinagar is a famous Buddhist pilgrim town, the nearby villages like Rajapakar still remain undeveloped. The population of Rajapakar comprises of farmers and unskilled workers who are unemployed most time of the year. Due to lack of reliable source of income and financial constraints, their children drop out from schools and start working at early ages and therefore cannot fulfill their dreams and ambitions.
Although there are numerous scholarships from individuals, private and government institutions to provide financial aid to the poor and needy, they are marginalized to the students living in urban and suburban areas. These scholarships are usually unknown to the deserving students and their families living in remote locations. Hence the objective of this campaign is to reach out to these students, mentor and sponsor their education.
I have been a part of this campaign since a long time and have contributed to this cause at a minor level. But in order to make a big difference, I would like the assistance of each and every one of you.
The mission of this campaign is to raise funds from individuals and institutions to support our cause to "Educate a Child". Every donation received from you will be packaged into scholarships and awarded to deserving students who belong to economically backward part of the society.
Initially financial aid will be available to five students who will qualify our terms and conditions. The scholarship will include a two times half yearly allowance to cover education fees ( 26800 INR p.a or as per school regulations) and a one time yearly allowance of 6000 INR for stationary and school uniforms etc. The renewal of the scholarship is subject to the report of the students from the school and reviewers that will be set up from among our volunteers.
This is an initiation phase (phase zero) and would gradually develop the campaign with more scholarships based on the responses of the donors and volunteers.
I hope to receive a good response from donors, volunteers and founding members.
Let us help to make a difference. Let us educate a child.
