The young girls of Dighwara (and the surrounding villages) have a very sub-standard boxing ring made of brick and sand to train. However, for these girls it is hallowed ground where they practice for two and a half hours everyday.
Despite all the difficulties stemming from taking up boxing in a rural area and the absolute lack of facilities, these girls have gone on to win medals at the district, state and national levels.
According to the coaches, Roshan Singh and Dhiraj Kant, the girls desperately need a boxing ring which would cost between 2,50,000 and 3,00,000 Rupees. The district and state governments are unwilling to help. Some local politicians did promise to help but like most politicians promises, they were silently broken.
The boxing club often waives the fees of girls who cannot afford it. Let us help these girls by raising the required money for their club!
