Dhivya, like any other kid was playful and full of life despite her impoverished background. But fate dealt her a cruel blow in Jan 2016 when she was diagnosed with a failing heart.
She was in her seventh grade in a nearby municipal school when she started to have episodes of breathlessness and extreme fatigue along with leg swelling since January 2016.
She was brought to the medical attention of Dr.Manoj Durairaj – Sr. Cardiac Surgeon – Ruby Hospital, Pune. Dr.Durairaj, a kind hearted man, was shocked to see evidence of severe heart weakness and heart failure in the young child. The diagnosis was Cardiomyopathy – a condition practically incurable by conventional medicines. Dr. Manoj tried all drugs for 5 months, but the child continued to deteriorate. Dr. Majoj concluded that the only way to save Dhivya was to get a heart transplant done.
He approached the Pune based foundation Marian Trust which agreed to fund the initial treatment and investigations for the child in Chennai. Dhivya was then referred to Fortis Malar hospital for heart transplant and was registered in the government transplant waiting list along with all the special investigations which have been completed.
Dhivya is now waiting for a suitable heart donor. She is now the under the care of Dr.R.Ravikumar.MD.DM, Senior Interventional Cardiologist and Heart Failure Specialist at Fortis Malar Hospital.
The treatment cost has been subsidized and comes to an amount of 10 lakhs out of which 5 lakhs have already been raised. We are in need of another 5 lakhs and appeal to kind hearted donors to please help us in whatever way you can.
