Dear Supporters,

Your generosity has not just given hope to a sportsman but also made him believe in himself and encouraged him to climb greater heights. Thank you for getting financially handicapped Rajkumar back to the ice skating rink.

I am Radhika, a Fellow with Milaap. I got an opportunity to speak to Rajkumar about his journey with ice skating. It gives me great happiness to inform you all that in August 2016, he went to the United States to receive specialized coaching. He was trained for 5 months at the Kendall Ice Arena in Miami.

Here are a few pictures of his journey abroad:

I always dreamt of going abroad. This is like a huge dream come true for me. In the presence of a coach, I learnt so many new techniques and got to improve immensely. Even the quality of the practice ground was superior,” says Rajkumar. His voice filled with contentment, he adds, “Earlier, I used to get nervous as I watched my opponents perform at the international level. I was not well choreographed, nor did I have the skills and proper techniques. I could not even do a jump. Now I can do a double jump.

After returning back to India in January, he participated in two competitions. He won a gold medal at the Indraprastha Tournament, and won a silver medal at the All India ice-skating championship organized by the Ice Skating Association of India.

There is still a long way to go for Rajkumar before he can confidently represent India at the Winter Olympics in 2018. His trials for the Olympics are expected to begin from November 2017. Since there is no proper ice skating center in Delhi, he goes with his father to practice at the ice rink in Ambiance Mall, Gurgaon. Sadly, due to lack of financial assistance, he cannot practice regularly.

It is essential for me to practice under a coach on a daily basis. To perform excellently at an international level, I need to learn choreographies involving yoga poses and other impressive stunts. Here, in India, I practice all by myself,” says Rajkumar.

I would sincerely request you all to please share his campaign in your network of friends and family. Your effort will help a gem not just sustain but polish his talent. Seeing his dedication, if he continues to receive the right guidance, we are sure he will continue to do our whole country proud!
