Women and Children of GB Road

    from New Delhi, Delhi

Tax benefits for INR donations will be issued by Kat-Katha

COVID-19 pandemic has affected millions around the world. While for some, the lockdown and isolation is an inconvenience, for many, it is an unacknowledged struggle for survival.

GB Road, the largest red-light area in Delhi, is a road with over 2000 women and children living across 78 brothels. Sex workers (Didis) on GB Road are victims of sex trafficking, abuse, and violence. Women of GB Road who support themselves and their families through daily earnings found themselves without any money after the lockdown. Their lives have come to a grinding halt, even basic necessities like food and medicines are not available at hand.

It’s time when we step up as leaders and help this community which has always lived in isolation and lockdown!

What has Kat-Katha done until now:
  • Awareness campaigns to sensitize women and children about the coronavirus pandemic driven by leaders from the community.
  • Analysis of the situation on the field and designing of a comprehensive plan to support women and children.
  • As an immediate response, Kat-Katha organized its first COVID-19 Karuna Relief Drive to distribute substantial ration and hygiene kits to more than 800 families for one month’s sustenance. We also provided special kits for infants.
In this situation, women are left hopeless and unemployed. We aim to empower women to fulfil their deep-rooted dreams to live a life of their own choice and break the chain of sex trafficking.

What is the COVID-19 Resilience Fund?
Kat-Katha plans to raise a COVID-19 Resilience Fund which takes care of more than 1000 families for the next 12-18 months to support basic necessities for survival and to find ways to make the community resilient to imminent dangers when the lockdown opens in a poor economy.

We need your support to ensure the holistic well-being of our Didis and their children by achieving the following goals.

● Providing food security, medical aid and hygiene kits.
● Provide quality education, therapies, holistic growth and safe residential space to children and women.
● Training women in employable skills and enable them to live a life of their own choice by providing alternative livelihood opportunities for rehabilitation.

Your contribution would ensure that no woman and child fall prey to hunger or disease, and all women get an opportunity to learn new skills to end forced sex work.

Experts predict it might take up to 6 months for social distancing measures to relax and 18-24 months for the economic conditions to revive. Sex work, specifically, would face serious problems due to the social distancing and economic crisis, and sex trafficking would increase resulting in more women forced to sell their bodies due to poverty.

How can you help?
Your donation will provide alternate livelihood opportunities and essential supplies like food and medical aid to more than 1000 families on GB Road. The mission is to make the community self-sustainable not just for the COVID-19 crisis, but the economic aftermath that will follow.

Come, join us in our journey and bless our Didis and Children with happiness and hope!

This is a 100% not-for-profit campaign, and we will disclose the disbursement progress of the fund in a transparency report. This will be shared with all contributors at the end of the campaign, along with regular updates to donors. You can choose to get 80G benefits for this donation.

Lets spread Karuna (compassion) in the time of Corona!
