An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest

We Shreeya, Soumya and Ram are delighted to introduce to you our 93 rock stars of Chennai Corporation school MGR Nagar,Chennai, all set to conquer the world. Our children, a bunch of 5th graders are multifaceted and joyful kids, very eager to learn. They come from communities where parents work for a daily wage. Unequal access to resources, reduces their chances of receiving equal opportunities to learn.

Through the course of our fellowship with Teach for India in the last year, we have observed most of our kids to be visual and auditory learners.

"The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it from you"-B.B King
We envision our kids to grow up to be intelligent, skilled individuals with a kind heart which highlights the true value of education devoid of rote learning.

The funds that we raised which was close to Rs.131,327 in the last academic year (2017-18) were utilized for 93 kids across three classrooms in the following areas:
Academics:
1. Reading resources and story books for each class.
2. Print outs of study material, worksheets, assessments, activity books and notebooks.
3. A  projector and sound system to encourage learning through the use of technology.
Exposure:
4. Field trips: Trip to the Egmore museum (arranged for transport and lunch as well)
5. External curricular and co-curricular opportunities:  Bought sports equipment, enrolled kids for Cricket,Karate and Bharatanatyam, bought costumes and materials for inter-school competitions, transport and related logistics for inter-school competitions, took kids for an MUN, took them to write international Olympiads (GK,English,Science and Math) organised by SOF among many more.

Kindly look through the updates in this page for detailed information regarding every activity and split of of funds utilisation for the academic year 2017-2018.

We seek your help in enabling  our children immerse themselves in different ways of learning for the next academic year, 2018-2019. We envision for this to foster holistic development and a strong sense of community and social responsibility in the children.

Dear Supporters!!

It’s that time of the year!!! Field trip time!!!!!

We Are completing our fellowship this April and wanted one last trip filled with fun, frolic and a lot of learning with our kids. We are taking our trips for an educational tour to Dakshin Chitra and Crocodile Bank, where the kids will have hands on training in pot making, sculpting , jewellery designing, carving etc and also get to learn a lot about reptiles. There is also a quick visit to the snake park we are arranging where kids will be learning about venom extraction.

We thank each one of you who have supported us through this wonderful journey. But it doesn’t end here, our kids will have to continue to enjoy this beautiful learning experience, for which we need your continuous support. The funds will be utilised by the next fellow supporting them through 7th and 8th grade to continue all the activities. Please do continue to encourage our rockstars.

With a lot of love and gratitude,

TEAM MGRNAGAR

Hey everybody!

" A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind and touches a heart."
We ( Shreeya, Soumya, Deepak and Cristina) are teaching sixth graders in Chennai Middle School, MGR Nagar. The research paper submitted by three of our kids (Barath, Santhosh and Priyadharshini) in City As Lab (CAL) project has been selected for presentation in their conference to be held in Mumbai on March 2, 2019. The topic chosen by these kids is " Conservation Of Energy Through Judicious Use Of Electricity". Through this paper, they've done data collection and analysis and raised awareness regarding the same in their community
For making this possible, we are in immediate need of money (Rs.30000) for meeting their travel and other expenses for three students and two teachers . Please support us in making these kids dream into reality.
If you've google pay app or paytm you can send the money via google pay. Our contact numbers are given below:
