At the beginning it felt like it was my RIGHT to live in clean surroundings, then for a while it became an EXPECTATION, but when nothing happened, one day it finally became ‘EK PRAYATAN’. That is how Paramarthi was born, an initiative to clean and maintain the public parks, sidewalks, roads and bring back the original beauty of Dwarka sub-city, New Delhi. For the people of Dwarka and by the people of Dwarka.
The rapid economic growth in Dwarka has created a problem of dirty streets and poor sanitation. This if not controlled, right now, can become a full-blown crisis. I’ve lived in Dwarka for the last 14 years and during this time I’ve noticed how some sidewalks have never been cleaned, there is never a dustbin around when you need one, how plastic bags and other trash just floats around like its part of the landscape – in short there are many problems but there’s also tremendous potential.
Thought Paramarthi, I have taken it upon myself to start healing our surroundings thought cleaning and maintenance. Our crew (pictured above) works day and night with the sole objective to first clean the roads and surrounding areas and secondly, maintain the cleanliness of these areas. With my own resources and those of some close friends we have begun our journey with Sector – 11 and 5 of Dwarka. Its our first step in this direction and in just a matter of weeks, we have made significant progress in the areas covered by our crew (pictures below).
Proof is in the pudding and the following pictures show the result of our hard efforts in Dwarka, where we have managed the desired transformation;
However, progress is slow, mostly due to our limited resources. We also have a long road to cover, approximately 396 kms of roads (*approx) running through Dwarka. Also, trash is never in shortage and in certain areas we have noticed the results of our clean-ups are short-lived. Hence we have decided to maintain these areas by cleaning them consistently throughout the year. We also plan to install dustbins around all key areas and take up the mantel of managing public waste one day. So far we have managed to clean-up 5 kms of roads including footpaths, dividers and other surrounding areas.

We find the work that we do very gratifying and with your support we would like to do it on a larger scale. The results of our efforts will not just create a cleaner area around your home or office in Dwarka, but also result in better outdoor safety and quality of life. We’ve been working for a few weeks now, but the idea took root years ago and was hypothesized considering cheap and permanent solutions to this problem. We are confident that one day we will completely clean the city of Dwarka. In this endeavour, we were glad to see our efforts to clean Dwarka are being noticed (pictured below).
