Chintamani, located in Chikballapur district is a semi-arid area which experiences erratic rainfall during the monsoon. Most of the villages do not have sufficient green cover and availability of water resources is scarce.
Current Scenario:
- The district lacks green cover
- Villages suffer from acute shortage of water
- Water table in this region is very low
- Less water in the sole pond located in the identified village for plantation drive
To begin with 5000 saplings will be planted in one village covering 25 acres. By planting trees in large numbers, Say Trees and United Way Bengaluru wants to restore the green cover which, in long run, will help in water conservation, restore biodiversity and increase the water table in the village.
Chintamani Requires:
Areas of support | Activities | Estimated Costs |
Community Tree plantation | Planting drive – Around 5000 indigenous plants will be planted which will improve the green cover here. | INR 3,00,000/- per year |
Engage villagers in plantation drive to increase their income | Involve local people in planting trees and enable them to improve their financial condition by paying them salaries/ labour charges | INR 1,50,000 per year |
Rejuvenate sole pond in this area | Ensuring that the pond is always filled with water by planting trees and undertaking regular cleaning | INR 50,000 per year |
